Kite1

Kite at the Charles

Price: $5.00

We love flying kites – who doesn’t? This shawl was inspired by the fun hours we had at the Charles River in Boston flying our first kite. For some reason the sky was always blue and we could go on for for ever and ever. I have made the pattern fully customizable so you can use any yarn and decide the size of the shawl. Use the interactive pattern to estimate the number of sts etc depending on your gauge, desired size of shawl or the yarn you have. The center of the shawl is worked in stockinette stitch and the top and sides are worked in garter stitch to emphasis the contrasts in the shawl colors as well as stitch pattern. It is easy to substitute with other stitch patterns as long as gauge is measured accurately. The interactive pattern ensures that your different blocks will match perfectly, and your shawl will lay nice and flat. I have used a nice hand dyed fingering weight yarn and a relatively dense gauge to give the right drape and ensure focus on the colors. The shawl would be beautiful worked in one color also. You can use the pattern with any weight of yarn and any gauge, and you decide the size of the final shawl. Fill in your gauge and information on page two of the pattern, and you are good to go. Save the pdffile or print it for future reference.

Socks1

Danish Fisherman’s Socks

Price: $4.00

Since the beginning of the 1930’es, the fishermen at the west coast of Denmark have been wearing the traditional Sailor Sweaters made out of sturdy, heavy wool. Here the pattern has been transferred to a pair of sock, maintaining the traditional, marine blue color.  The socks are knit top down, with a round heel and a wedge toe. Instructions are given for women’s small, medium and large – sizes are easily adjustable.

Baby Romper

 Price $5.00

This summer garment would be suitable for a baby boy or girl. Perfect for a sunny day, or with a T-shirt underneath. It is knit flat bottom up in two pieces and sewn together. The lower parts are shaped by increases and decreases, and the body part is a simple 1×1 rib. Body parts are finished off by a crochet edge. I have used contrasting colors (in fact three: orange for the front, yellow for the back and grey for body and ribs), but it would be lovely in just two colors also, a single color, or maybe stripes? I have chosen 100% mercerized cotton, but any fiber/blend would work nicely with this pattern.

The pattern has links to video-tutorials for the applied techniques.

Silk Scarf Narrative

Silk Scarf Narrative

FREE. (download now) My mother taught me the stitch halvpatent – a stretchy rib pattern. The closest English terms I have been able to come up with is “half patent”, “half brioche” or “half fisherman’s stitch”. This unisex scarf has garter stitch squares alternating with the half patent stitch producing a lovely texture. Both sides are beautiful. The pattern has written as well as chart instructions.
